more shoes?

today i started packing.

by packing i mean mainly writing lists, rooting through boxes, discovering things that i'd forgotten about, and then adding them to the list(s) before subsequently crossing them straight off. it is so hard to pack when you have no idea of what your living arrangements will be. do i pack a single duvet, a double duvet or just buy one out there? 2 pillows or 4? do i need mugs and chopping boards and tea towels?! who knows. thankfully by some divine guidance i have managed to land in a place that has a recently opened ikea (woohooo) so anything i don't bring i know i can buy fairly easily and comfortably. despite these packing problems, i have still some how managed to fill up 3 cardboard boxes and a couple of shoe boxes with random bits. i'm running out of boxes though. maybe i should buy more shoes.

i've also been doing some research into what avignon is like as a town.

This image is of the famous pont saint-bénezet (le pont d'avignon), which joins avignon to its smaller suburb, villeneuve-les-avignon, the town in which i'll actually be working (i think - still not been told!). the town itself is fortified, and is surrounded by walls and turrets, and was apparently home to many popes up until the early 15th century. from all the pictures on google it looks like a really really nice town, and i'm so excited to get out there and start exploring. here is the wikipedia page so you can have a read for yourself.

tomorrow i'm hoping to get down to tesco to stock up on last minute supplies of pg tips, marmite and magazines. not sure if i will keep up with this rate of blog posting, but you can follow me on twitter for regular updates.
